Arthur Theis Obituary

Theis, Arthur John age 100, of Plymouth passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025. Preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, MaryAnn. Arthur was born and raised in Watkins, MN. Served in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacist’s Mate First Class. Landing troops and supplies in the Pacific on the USS. Kenmore during World War ll. Also served in the Korean War on two different mine sweepers as a Hospital Corpsman First Class, the USS. Kite and the USS. Merganser. He earned (4) battle stars, combat ribbon and many other metals.

Graduate of Kimball High School, B.S. at St. Cloud State University, M.S.E.D at Northern State University, SD. Graduate of Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science. During his professional teaching career, he taught sixth Grade in St. Paul’s Sheridan Elementary School for 6 years. Taught for Orono School District 278 for 26 years. Specializing in Math and Science at Schuman Elementary and the Middle School. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Past Grand Knight of the St. Barts council and past charter Grand Knight, Knights of Columbus Father Nolan Council 12293 of St. George Church. Belonged to the Hamel VFW and Wayzata American Legion. Also belonged to the Maple Plain Lions Club for over 25 years. He was elected as a councilman for the City of Medina serving for 13 years.

Arthur was an avid golfer, playing at Shamrock and Hollydale golf courses in Corcoran. He achieved the ultimate excitement of a Hole in One. Together he and MaryAnn also enjoyed bowling leagues at the Buckhorn in Long Lake and the Medina Entertainment Center. During their summer breaks from teaching Arthur & MaryAnn enjoyed running the Grand T House Resort on Grand Lake in Rockville. During retirement they wintered in Mesa Arizona.

Survived by Children, Timothy (Josie), Ivy Blix, Jon (Lisa), Carol (Duane) Sulander. Grandchildren, Kathleen (Kevin) Deford, Michael Theis, Paul Coleman, Amy (Mike) Groschen, Joshua (Kelli) Theis, Jesse Theis, Tiana (Kaili) Diehn Blix. Great- Grandchildren- Kaylee & Connor Coleman, Logan & Ava Groschen, Logan Deford. Visitation is Tuesday the 29 th of July 5-7 PM at Rettinger Funeral Home, 425 Lake St. Long
Lake. Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM, July 30th with visitation 1 hour prior to service at Catholic Church of St. George, 133 N. Brown Rd. Long Lake. Interment will be at St. George Cemetery.
