Sorensen, Douglas Martin, of Plymouth, formerly of Long Lake, died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 22, at the age of 88. Doug was born in Bozeman, Montana, on March 13, 1931. In 1936, Doug moved with his family (twin brother, Duane, parents Harry and Edith) to Wayzata, Minnesota, and in 1938 they bought a 110-acre farm. Doug was a wrestler and a lineman on the varsity football team at Wayzata High School, from which he graduated in 1949. That fall, Doug took a job at Meyer Bros. Dairy, where, with the exception of the four years (1951-1955) he spent in the Air Force during the Korean War, he remained until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Hamel VFW Post 5903 and the Wayzata American Legion Post 118. Doug met Jeanne Valley on a blind date, and the couple was married on July 30, 1960. Doug is survived by Jeanne; their three children, Susan (Hawkins Dale), Daniel (Dores), and David; four grandchildren, Jack, Fiona, Hank, and Nora; brother Duane (Charlotte); cousin Jim (Gail); and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at St. George Catholic Church (133 North Brown Road, Long Lake) on Thursday, January 9, at 11 a.m. (visitation begins at 10 a.m.). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George Catholic Church.
