It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frank John Plachecki, Ph.D. on September 1, 2025. Frank was a beloved husband, brother, educator, musician, and mentor who touched countless lives through his passion for teaching, music, and unwavering faith.
Dr. Plachecki was a distinguished educator who dedicated his career to developing leaders and managers across various industries. He taught courses in leadership and management development, performance improvement, and human resource management, with a particular focus on supervisory and frontline manager development. His innovative approach to education, which incorporated live musical performances into his classes, created high-energy, memorable learning experiences that inspired and engaged participants throughout his career.
Frank's educational achievements included a Ph.D. in Education, M.A. in Marketing, and B.S. in Education, all from the University of Minnesota.
Beyond his academic credentials, Frank was an accomplished keyboardist and successful local musician who had a deep love for 1970s and 1980s music. He collaborated with many musicians throughout the community, sharing his passion for music and bringing joy to audiences wherever he performed. His musical talents enriched not only his professional teaching but also brought energy and connection to his personal relationships and community involvement.
Frank had a strong passion for volunteerism and was deeply committed to his roles as a Shriner and Mason. Through these organizations, he found meaningful ways to give back to his community and help others, reflecting his generous spirit and dedication to service.
Frank had many health setbacks but spoke with particular passion about life, faith, family, and career fulfillment. His personal journey through illness gave him a unique perspective on what truly matters, and he shared this wisdom generously with students, colleagues, and audiences throughout the community.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl of Wayzata, MN, and his sister, Rae Plachecki of Sauk Rapids, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother Doris, who passed away on March 5, 2011, and his father Jerry, who passed away on March 27, 2025.
Dr. Plachecki's legacy lives on through the thousands of students and professionals he mentored, the organizations he helped strengthen, and the lives he touched with his music and message of hope. His unique blend of professional excellence, creative expression, and deep faith created a lasting impact that will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the researchers, doctors, and nurses at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for their exceptional care and dedication.
A life tribute will be held on Tuesday, September 9 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. for family and friends to gather to pay their respects to Frank. This will be held at Rettinger Funeral Home in Long Lake, MN.
A music celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Details will be announced as they become available.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to support cancer research or business education, causes that were close to Frank's heart throughout his life.
