George Frederick Fike, 83, of Long Lake, MN, formerly of Michigan, went home to be with Jesus on May 23, 2021. He passed away suddenly from complications from a fall. He was currently a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church of Long Lake. George was born in Detroit, MI, the first born son of George A. and Martha (Domke) Fike on July 30, 1937. A brother, John (Jack) followed two years later and survives. He lived in the Detroit area growing up and graduated from Cooley High School in 1955. He attended Highland Park Community College. George worked as a Master Electrician with Detroit I.B.E.W. local 58. He was a proud 54-year union member and worked mostly on commercial and industrial sites. George lived in Redford Township, MI raising his five daughters until 1983 when he married Donna (Hudolin) on November 11 in St. Clair, MI. He and Donna moved to Traverse City in 1992 where they lived on Old Mission Peninsula for the next 25 years. They loved the area, the life and the people. In Traverse City, they were members of First Congregational Church and Elks Lodge #323. In 2017, they moved to Minnesota to be near family. George was an avid sports fan and, especially after retiring, enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed attending any sporting event in which a family member participated. He enjoyed the challenge of Sudoku, watching History Channel and especially The Curse of Oak Island! He also enjoyed gardening and birds and shared those interests with his daughters. He loved children and doing things like stocking up and donating school supplies each year and, at Halloween, loading his van with pumpkins and unexpectedly delivering them to the neighborhood kids. George is survived by his wife of 37 years, Donna, his daughters Fawn (Angelo) Cecchini, Cheryl Fike, Carolyn Fike, Jennifer Fike (Jon Cioffi), and Susan (Brad) Schertz, step-daughters LeAnn (John) Seto and Lori (Tom) Westling; Grandchildren: Sara, Lea, Juliana, Alex, and Emily and Katie, Christopher, Adam, Michael, and Julia. Great Grandchildren: Bella, Lewis and Cecilia and little boy Westling due in November. He proudly included Traverse City neighbors Andrew & Sarah Shotwell and children Amelia, Ava and Vivian among his treasured family. In addition to his brother, John (Jack) Fike of San Diego, and his son, John, also of San Diego, he is survived by in-laws Julie (Calvin) Rock of Bensalem, PA and Dan (Karen) Hudolin of St. Clair, MI. A niece, Sarah (David) Freeman, and nephews, Ben Rock (Kim) and Nicolas and Eric Hudolin, along with several other loving family members and special friends will miss him, as well.
