Gerald "Jerry" Gebert Obituary

Today we share the news that our beloved family member Gerald “Jerry” Gebert, passed away on September 1, 2026.

Jerry was born in Minneapolis on August 1, 1955, and grew up in Hopkins, Minnesota. He attended Hopkins High School and spent much of his working life at The Blake Schools in Minneapolis and Rettinger’s 76 in Long Lake. He enjoyed escaping Minnesota winters for Arizona, spending time with family and friends and enjoyed the companionship of his two beloved Pomeranian pups.

Jerry met and later married Becky Sass, and the two shared a life filled with family, companionship, and love. Becky’s passing from cancer in 2012 was a tremendous loss for Jerry.

In his later years, Jerry faced the challenges of Lewy body dementia. He spent time in care in Wayzata and most recently in Orono where he shared in the company of his sister-in-law, Kathy. While dementia changed so much, it could never erase the memories of the person he was or the love people had for him.

Jerry leaves behind his brother, Larry and sister-in-law Laurie and their family, sister-in-law, Kathy Sass, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, dear friends, Lona and Kelly Shaughnessy and their family, and so many other relatives, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Doris; his beloved wife, Becky; mother-in-law Edna; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Valerio; and many other friends and loved ones who welcomed him home before us.

We will always be grateful that Jerry was part of our lives. Family isn’t only about the memories we make together—it’s about the people who become woven into the story of who we are. Jerry will always be part of ours.

You will always be loved, forever remembered, and never forgotten.
