James (Jim) LaPointe Obituary

James (Jim) LaPointe, age 69, passed away on July 4, 2021 surrounded by family at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Raised in Plymouth MN, Jim joined the Marines in 1972 and served his country in Okinawa. As a younger man, he could be found riding across the states on his Harley-Davidson. Jim relocated to California in 1980 where he started a family and a business, and eventually returned to MN in 1993.  Jim was a man of few words and firm in his convictions. Family will miss his twisted sense of humor, his prankster ways, and his unparalleled snark. He was a burly guy and a little rough around the edges but adored his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews who were so fortunate to know his love. Jim will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence (“Frenchie”) and Mary Jane LaPointe; brother Eugene; and sister Theresa. Survived by daughter Jamie and son Gene; grandchildren Brooklyn, Beckett, and Bentley; brothers Craig, Mitchell, and Roger; sisters Mary, Annette and Colette; many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on July 22, 2021 at 11:00am at Rettinger Funeral Home in Long Lake, with a reception to follow at the Wayzata American Legion. A private internment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Little Falls on July 23, 2021.
