Janet C. Solheim

Solheim, Janet C. (Enright) Age 83, of Long Lake, MN, passed away September 9, 2022. Survived by her husband of 60 years Bob, children, Lee (Lori), Linda (Mark) Casagrande and Colleen (Dutch) Gjerdahl: grandchildren, Candace (Sean), Ryan, Abbey, Sam, and Sofia; great-grandchildren Eden and Calvin. Brother Denny (Kathy)Enright.

Jan grew up in St. Paul and graduated from Wilson High School. She married Bob in 1962 and they lived in Minneapolis and Hopkins, eventually settling in Long Lake in 1967. Jan was a “stay-at-home” mom when her kids were young, but was always busy volunteering at school, the kid’s activities, and at church. Jan worked as her kids got older, first as the Welcome Wagon lady, then started her career at JCPenney, as a cashier, eventually moving into HR, doing hiring, training and scheduling for the store. Working at JCPenney helped Jan fulfill her passion for finding a good deal. The house and family were outfitted in items from Penny’s, which Jan never
paid full price for! After retiring, Jan worked seasonally at the Renaissance Festival selling jewelry and volunteering to sew costumes for fellow cast members. Jan volunteered from the time her kids were young. She was a Campfire girl troop leader and spent several years on the Long Lake Park Board. She was an active volunteer at Calvin Presbyterian Church; leading the rummage sales, circle groups, mission trips, session member, planting and tending to the flowers and gardens, and taking groups to volunteer at Loaves and Fishes and the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery.

In her free time Jan loved to read, sew, garden, spend time with her grandchildren, go to the casino, and go out for lunch and shopping. Jan and Bob loved to travel. Some of their fondest travel memories were cruises and trips to Mexico with friends, cruising Alaska with family, visiting the Hawaiian Islands, road tripping through Europe while stopping to visit relatives in Sweden and most recently a family cruise to the Mediterranean. Upon retiring Jan and Bob spent over 15 winters in Surprise, Arizona. Some of Jan’s favorite activities in Arizona were happy hours with friends, craft sales, bocce ball, water aerobics, buying pottery, and road trips to Las Vegas.

Services are Saturday, October 15 th at 11am at Calvin Presbyterian Church, Long Lake, MN with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Calvin Presbyterian Church for a new playground.
