Jerome A. Borgert Obituary

Jerome “Jerry” Allen Borgert, age 94, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024. Born on September 29, 1930 in Browerville, Minnesota, Jerry dedicated his life to education and family, leaving a lasting legacy in both areas. Jerry spent over four decades as a beloved Social Studies teacher. His career began with two years at Coast Union High School in Cambria, California, where he not only taught and coached football, but also drove the school bus, ensuring students’ safe passage each day. He then moved his family to Long Lake where Jerry enjoyed a 40- year career at Orono High School teaching Social Studies/History as well as coaching football and basketball. Jerry’s passion for sports extended beyond coaching; he also served as a timekeeper and announcer for football, basketball and wrestling events, becoming a cherished figure in the school community and leaving a lasting impact on his students and colleagues alike. A man of diverse interests, Jerry was deeply passionate about history and genealogy, which led him to author three books detailing his life and family heritage. His love for travel was shared with his late wife Patricia, with whom he explored many destinations, creating cherished memories.

Jerry is survived by his devoted daughters: Brenda (Joe) Nemastil, Michelle (Fred) Cassel, Cynthia Borgert, Pamela (Steve) Schmidt, and Rebecca (Jay) Green. His legacy continues through his 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, his sister Barbara (Don) Snyder and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, his parents Joseph and Marie, his siblings Rosemary, Tom, Bob, and John, and his mother-in-law Helen. Jerry’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and the pursuit of knowledge. His contributions to education and his love for family will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
