Joy Antoinette (Rachel) DiBerardini Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Joy (Rachel) DiBerardini, who passed away at the age of 80, on June 4th, 2026 after a courageous fight with ovarian cancer. Joy passed peacefully at home surrounded by those dearest to her.

Born on April 27th, 1946 in South St. Paul to Guido & Elvera DiBerardini, Joy lived a life marked by adventure, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to her family.

A Legacy of Love: Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. To know Joy was to know a woman whose heart knew no bounds. She was the cornerstone who anchored everyone with her fierce strength. Caring for others was at the heart of who she was. Her years in the medical field allowed her to serve her community with compassion and grace.

As a Wife: Joy married Robert Boysen in 1967, and their marriage gave them three beautiful children, Kyra, Rick, and Carmen. Later, Joy remarried her soulmate, Robert Berney on the ski slopes of Reno, and for the next 28 years they built a life of love, laughter, and partnership.

As a Mother: Joy was the proud and fiercely loving mother of Kyra & (Brandon) Schelling; Rick & (Vickie) Boysen; Carmen & (Ali) Ahyai; Matt Berney; Josh & Taylor Berney. She raised her children with patience, teaching her values of love, resilience, and strength.

As a Grandmother: Perhaps her greatest joy in life was her role as "Nama" to her grandchildren, Evan & Shane Schelling; Preston Boysen; Jack & Tori Bauer; Alex, Andre, Zach, Darius, and Natalia Ahyai; Xander & Zara Berney; Hayden, Kayla, Brooke Berney and, great-grandchild Owen. She cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was spoiling them with hugs, sharing stories, or attending their milestones. To her grandchildren, she was a source of unconditional love and endless comfort.

Pet Owner: One of Joy's greatest pleasures was the companionship of the many dogs she owned. In her final years, she built quite a bond with her pup Quinn, who she'd walk miles with and laugh at whatever Quinn managed to find and bring her.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Berney; her loving children, Brandon & Kyra Schelling, Rick & Vickie Boysen, Carmen Ahyai, Matt & Josh Berney; her cherished grandchildren; Evan & Shane Schelling, Preston Boysen, Jack & Tori Bauer, Alex, Andre, Zack, Darius, and Natalia Ahyai, Xander & Zara Berney, Hayden, Kayla, Brooke Berney and, great-grandchild Owen; and a lifetime of wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guido & Elvera
