Julius (Jay) Vitus Hardt
Age 89 of Wayzata, formerly of Maple Plain, passed away surrounded by family at North Memorial Hospice, Robbinsdale. He was born on the family farm to Henry Ernest Hardt and Alice Gertrude (Tautges) Hardt on April 25, 1923. Jay was a World War II Veteran, retired Hennepin County, Life Member Paul Stinson American Legion, retired volunteer member Maple Plain Fire Department, Charter Member St. George Council Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, and Trustee St George Catholic Church, Long Lake, MN.,
He married the love of his life, Viola Frances (Rieland) Hardt and they had just celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary. To that union was born a daughter, Nancy Ann (Bob) O'Brien, Honolulu, HI, grandsons, Sean Michael (Jamie) O'Brien; Eian & Aleck, Des Moines, IA, Scott Jay (Jenna) O'Brien; Jacob, Joe, Johnny, & Olivia, Big Lake, MN. Others who celebrate him are a sister, Alice Lorraine McPherson, Maple Plain, MN, and brother-in-law, Vic Burgess, Bagley, MN.
Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosa Mae Burgess, and brother-in-law, Dale McPherson.
He loved the outdoors whether fishing from his boat or off the dock or in his ice house with his grandsons & friends. Jay was a champion bowler and adamant MN Twins & Viking fan and enjoyed frequent road trips with Vi. He took pride in following the school and sporting activities of his great grandsons. Jay also cherished many loving nieces and nephews.
Celebration Mass of Christian Burial, St. George Catholic Church, Long Lake, 11 AM, Thursday May 24. No flowers, any memorials to the charity of choice.
