Kendall ‘Mike’ Ellis of Orono. Born 12/30/19-Died 7/31/18 Preceded in death by his parents James Thomas Ellis and Ruby Keeler; brothers Glenn, Art and Walter ‘Trapper’ Ellis, sister, Marilyn Ellis and nieces, Nancy Ellis and Judy Fischer. Survived by his nieces and nephews, Ginny (Richard) Bordwell, Kathy (Bruce) Hall, David (Terri) Ellis, Mike Ellis (Linda Fox) and Donald Fischer.
Mike was born and raised in Crystal Bay, MN. He lived in the house where he was born until age 97. His remaining time was spent at Trails of Orono.
Mike served as a medic in WWII, with time spent in N. Africa, Italy, France and Germany. On his return home he was a co-owner and operator of Long Lake Engine Rebuilders. It is now the ‘NAPA’ building in Long Lake.He was an active member of the Orono Lions Club for many years. His local and international work with them earned him many honors and much recognition.
He spent many years volunteering at the West Hennepin History Center in Long Lake. He was also named Long Lake’s Person of the Year in 1999. His love of fishing was a constant in his life. Multiple trips to S. America, the Arctic Circle and Alaska were highlights for him. Many large fish were caught! A memorial service will be held at Rettinger Funeral Home in Long Lake on Sat. October 27 at 2:00, with visitation starting at 1:00. Memorials to West Hennepin History Center.
