Lois Dion Obituary

Lois Dion, 86, of Mound Minnesota passed away peacefully on January 31 st , 2024, after a brief illness. Lois was born on September 29, 1937, to Elmer and Edna Kettner in Springfield Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm alongside her sisters Jean, Judy, Sharon, and Darlene (deceased) and her brothers Jerome and Doug.

A good student, she attended Springfield High School and later graduated college earning a master’s degree in education. Along she met the love of her life Douglas Dion and the two were married on July 15, 1961.
Lois taught elementary school in the Westonka School district and helped shape thousands of young lives over 30 years of dedicated service. Both Lois and Douglas were passionate sailors and frequently hosted weekends on Lake Superior on their many sailboats. She was the Commodore of her yacht club twice and taught dozens of experienced members the finer points of navigation, maintenance, and spinning yarns. Telling exotic tales was easy for Lois because she and Douglas extensively traveled the world and kept detailed logs of their many adventures. At the mention of almost any country Lois’s eyes would sparkle as she related an amusing account of a beautiful site or a particularly interesting person they had met there. Lois positively affected every person she met and always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. She will be dearly missed but will live on in the many thousands she touched with her warmth, humor, and enthusiastic love of life.
