Penelope "Penny" Elsenpeter

Penelope Leigh “Penny” Elsenpeter, age 79, of Maple Plain, passed away on September 1, 2026. She was born on April 27, 1947, to Phyllis and Lawrence Symoniak. The only daughter among four children, Penny was raised with her brothers John, Bill, and Michael. She graduated from Orono High School in 1965 and later completed training as a beautician, working for many years in Wayzata.

On June 21, 1969, Penny married Allan Elsenpeter. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage and made their home in Maple Plain, where they raised their sons, Richard and Howard. Penny was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She took pride in supporting and celebrating the many milestones, interests, and traditions of those she loved.

Penny will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to family, and the many traditions she helped create and preserve. She enjoyed baking Christmas cookies, family trips, music and theater, Canasta and card games, concerts, camping, counted cross-stitch, and time spent with her grandchildren. She had a special gift for making others feel welcomed, cared for, and included.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Phyllis and Lawrence Symoniak, and her brothers, John and Michael. She is survived by her husband, Allan Elsenpeter; her sons, Richard (Lisa) and Howard (Shannon); her grandchildren, Ashley (Justin McAtee) and Justin; her brother, Bill Symoniak; and many extended family members and friends. Penny leaves a lasting legacy of love, devotion, laughter, music, and cherished family traditions. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Funeral Service 7pm, Tues. Sept.8th with visitation 2 hours prior to service at Rettinger Funeral Home, Long Lake.
