Raymond John Hoffman, of Orono, Minnesota, passed away August 5th, 2025. He was 94 years old. Ray was born in Ortonville Minnesota to Leo and Pauline (Maslow) Hoffman in 1931. He grew up on the family farm with his two brothers and two sisters, and graduated Bellingham High School. He moved to Minneapolis at age 19 with his brother Herb and they worked as machine operators at Honeywell. Eventually, he jumped in his car and drove west, working various manufacturing and office jobs during the day, while taking correspondence courses for bookkeeping and accounting at night. He returned to Minnesota, and through a mutual friend went to a dance for a blind date with Ruth Goerger who had grown up just 10 miles away from him. (They had never met!) They married in 1964, and after a few years in California, they eventually settled in Orono, MN, where they spent the rest of their years. Early on Ray took over an accounting practice that his brother Herb had started, and ran Hoffman and Hoffman CPAs until retirement. After retirement Ray and Ruth continued the traveling they had done with their kids while growing up, and traveled and explored all 50 states and many foreign countries. They enjoyed their Arizona home for a time, but always came back to the lake in Orono. Ray was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and Vikings fan. Ruth and Ray were members of St. George Church in Long Lake since 1966, and volunteered in many different capacities. Ray was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus at St. George. He was a beloved uncle for many of his 30 nieces and nephews, and had a laugh, life advice and a story for every occasion. Ray is survived by his children John Hoffman, Ann Marie Hoffman (Johan Aarsvold), and his four grandchildren, Leo, Kira and Jack Hoffman, and Hailey Aarsvold. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on August 14th at Church of St. George in Long Lake, Minnesota. Please send memorials to the Church of St. George.
