Rita M. Mary Hughes

Rita Mary Hughes, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on December 31, 2024. Born in Minneapolis, she lived a full and loving life. Rita embarked on a rewarding career in education, teaching in the Minneapolis School System. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the College of St. Catherine and went on to obtain a Master's degree from the University of Minnesota. Rita was known for her love of travel and her cherished moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a passion for card games, enjoyed lake living, and embraced the Christmas spirit year-round, often hosting family gatherings. She also loved spending winters in sunny Tucson, AZ. Rita touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Terry, with whom she shared 61 wonderful years, as well as her children: Patrick (Linda), Jacqueline (Don), and John (Diane). She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward. A memorial service will be held on January 11th at Saint George Catholic Church in Long Lake MN Visitation at 9:30 AM, Mass at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor. Rita will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
