Robert W. Selstad

Robert William Selstad of Medina, Minnesota passed away on June 5, 2024 at the age of 90. Bob was born in Farmington, Minnesota on April 18, 1934 along with his fraternal twin sister Betty to Einar and Francis Selstad. At an early age, Bob’s family moved to Minneapolis. He discovered a love of the outdoors and spent countless days fishing on Theodore Wirth Lake. Bob developed a strong work ethic and sense of independence early on with his first job delivering newspapers. Bob met his wife Janet at a Minneapolis lake park in the early 1960s and married soon thereafter on June 1, 1963. They moved to Long Lake, MN. where they raised three boys and started a successful flooring, interior design, and mini storage business.

Bob’s passion for the outdoors included hunting, fishing, exercising, skiing, gardening and environmental conservation. When they moved to Independence, MN in 1989, Bob spent his days managing the property for conservation and wildlife. Bob restored countless acres back to native grassland and earned the moniker “Switchgrass Bob”. Bob was also recognized by the Lake Independence Association for improving the quality of the lake’s water and for his conservation work maintaining the wetlands. Bob’s joy of the outdoors was equaled by his ability to make people laugh and his larger-than-life personality.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; and sister Marge Pascoe. Bob is survived by his wife, Janet Selstad of Medina, MN; three sons, Erik (Nancy) of Delano, MN, Chris (Betsy) of Blaine, MN and Leif (Andrea) of Carmel, IN; five grandchildren; Gunnar, Tyler, Andrew, Annika and Karina; and his sister Betty Provo. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
