Ruth M. Hoffman

Hoffman, Ruth Magdalen (Goerger) of Orono, Minnesota passed away May 12th, 2023. She was 86 years old. Ruth was born in Madison, Minnesota to Ben and Cecilia Goerger in 1936. She grew up on the farm with her four sisters and two brothers, and graduated from Madison High School. She moved to Minneapolis at age 23, and worked for the Superintendent of Bloomington Schools. It was there that a mutual friend arranged a blind date with Ruth and Raymond, who had grown up just 10 miles away from her. They married in 1964. Ruth was a dedicated volunteer in the Orono School District where her two children attended all their school years. She was also very active with the Church of St. George, and spent many years visiting the elderly and being a friend to many. After Raymond retired, they enjoyed traveling and exploring, visiting all of the United States and many foreign countries. Their snowbird home in Arizona provided a relief from the Minnesota winters, but she always came back to Orono to appreciate the magnificent view of the beautiful lake and the creatures that also called their yard home. She was an amazing listener who made young and old feel heard and appreciated and she especially loved hearing the life updates and stories from her children, her grandchildren and her 30 nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband Raymond Hoffman, her children John Hoffman, Ann Marie Hoffman (Johan Aarsvold), and her four grandchildren Leo, Kira, and Jack Hoffman, and Hailey Aarsvold. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 17 at Church of St. George in Long Lake, Minnesota. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
