Shirley V Connelly

Connelly, Shirley Valrae Age 83 of Roseville passed away on August 26, 2018. Shirley was a nurse practitioner (np) at the Minneapolis Veterans Affair Medical Center (VAMC) from 1974 until 2003. She was the first np at VAMC and implemented the np role in several VAMC clinics. Prior to coming to the VAMC, she had an extensive career in nursing education. Shirley was an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, at St. Mary Junior College in Minneapolis, and was an instructor of nursing at Rochester Junior College. Shirley graduated from Milan High School, attended St. Olaf College, and graduated from St. Barnabas School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Minnesota, a Master of Science in Nursing from Boston University, and an Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Certificate from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Shirley is survived by two sisters, Kathryn Shulman (Richard) of Shoreview and Patricia Connelly (Christoph Steinbruchel) of Nashville, TN. Other surviving family members include nieces Deanna Shulman of Hollywood, CA and Erin Holt (Ryan) of Nashville, TN; nephew Justin Steinbruchel (Aditi) of Edina; grandnephews Walker Holt, Henry Holt and Ravi Steinbruchel and grandniece Raina Steinbruchel. Shirley is the daughter of the late Ellis and Myrtie Connelly of Milan, Minnesota.
