Walter M Baker Jr.
Walter passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 15th, 2026 surrounded by family. He was the only son of Walter Milton Baker Sr., and Mae Margaret Baker who preceded him in death. Additionally he was preceded in death by his sister and brother in law, Holly Mae and Dr. Thomas Dredge. Survived by beloved Wife of 53 years Susan, Children Wally (Heather) Baker granddaughters Ashlyn and Megan, daughter Debbie Baker, brother in law John Peters. Walter was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, with a BS in Chemistry and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law. He practiced law for more than 60 years.
A lifelong traveler, he cherished exploring the world and fulfilled his dream of sailing the South Pacific with his family. He was a pilot, Eagle Scout, and dedicated volunteer. For over four decades, he served at every level of the Presbyterian Church, finding particular joy in his volunteer work in Pakistan, General Assembly, Presbytery of the Twin Cities area and local Church. He volunteered with AARP, Habitat 500 and Ironman Bike Rides, Robbinsdale Amateur Radio Club and Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services. Walter loved the outdoors. He was an accomplished downhill skier who helicopter-skied in Canada and he and Susan led Swiss Alps ski trips. Skiing in the Rocky Mountains with his whole family brought great joy. He treasured time at the family cabin in Wisconsin. He was also known as N0KNP, an Amateur Radio operator.
